the pain and confusion your children go through after witnessing abuse (inflicted by their father towards you) leaves them hungry for you to console them and help them feel secure. But you may be overwhelmed yourself, feeling shaken up, humiliated , or enraged. If you can’t fully be there for them- and it isn’t your fault if you can’t-they may feel abandoned at a crucial moment, and those feelings may come out in defiance or rudeness towards you…..Don’t blame yourself for not being able to be SuperMom right after being abused, but do make sure that your children know they can count on you.
